He Will Add turns scraps into gold on ‘Dream Dreamer’

The joy in discovering someone like Alex G - or any musician who uploads a song as soon as it’s finished - is the leagues of material left to explore. Instead of finding a standalone track and hitting repeat, there’s a process of sifting through dozens to find the good stuff; like sourcing fool’s gold in a pool.

He Will Add is a London-based songwriter with, at the time of writing, 53 songs on his Soundcloud. He calls himself a “small town country boy”, and his music takes an escape route from a broken, smoggy city into the great outdoors.

‘Dream Dreamer’ might be the best of his songs so far. Dumbstruck, strung out along a vast coastline, it’s the sound of Deerhunter’s deepest cuts, or even Alex G with a more refined approach to pop. It’s nothing like a lot of He Will Add’s other uploads, which pour out at a stream-of-consciousness rate. But if he’s to ever make a lo-fi pop blueprint, this should be the base.
