Holy Now get heaven-sent on ‘Wishlist’
Gothenburg trio’s heartfelt, sun-dappled pop is becoming all the more essential.
Back in July, midway through a bleak-as-it-gets summer, Holy Now seemed like a perfect distraction. The Gothenburg group’s name in itself is a vibrant embracing of the current moment, and their enlivening ‘Wake Up’ single was enough to put them on the map as one of Sweden’s finest starry-eyed dreamers, just when everyone needed an escape route.
New single ‘Wishlist’ shares a similar spirit, aiming for the heavens instead of getting bogged down by the present day. “Give me something I can hold onto!” bellows Julia Olander above jangly guitars, tambourine pats and sweet, major keys. If the song’s bold pursuit of a different reality wasn’t enough, a coda of whirring “oohs” does the job. Make no mistake, Holy Now are more vital than ever.
The track is taken from a new EP titled ‘Please Call Me Back’, out next year via Lazy Octopus Records.
Festival special! Featuring Wolf Alice, Kasabian, Lykke Li, Marmozets, Genesis Owusu and more.
