I’lls bring beauty to bleakness with ‘Let Me Have Just One’ video

Brooding, minimal cut will turn heads towards this Melbourne trio.

Next in line to embrace the ‘less is more’ approach and do something new with it is I’lls (pronounced ‘Isles’), a Melbourne trio bringing barely-there electronic pop to the fore.

On their new track ‘Let Me Have Just One’, the three-piece of Dan Rutman, Hamish Mitchell and Simon Lam never go beyond the tools in their arsenal. What could be a swarm of synths is actually a carefully-balanced, emotive piece, sitting somewhere between Portishead’s production and the sobbing core of Thom Yorke’s ‘The Eraser’.

The track’s been coupled up with a similarly gorgeous video, which blurs sights and feelings into an unfamiliar trip. Lam (who also plays in exciting duo Klo) can just about be seen beneath the haze, but it’s easier to get lost in the wave of colours. “The aim was to distort and misconstrue the footage whilst keeping the warped figure of Simon as the focal point,” says director Sangkhara, aka Hamish from the group.

‘Let Me Have Just One’ is taken from the ‘Can I Go With You To Go Back To My Country’ EP, released 6th July on Solitaire Records. DIY is premiering the new video, below.
