Jack White discusses Paramount Records in CBS interview

Third Man Records released ‘Rise & Fall of Paramount Records’ on 18th November.

American television network CBS broadcast an interview with Jack White on Saturday (29th November), with the topic of conversation surrounding the release of ‘The Rise & Fall of Paramount Records Vol.II’ on White’s label Third Man.

As part of the American Broadcaster’s ‘CBS: This Morning’ series, the former White Stripe, The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather frontman spoke about the history of the illustrious Blues label of which is documented within a 6 new LP set.

The project, co-produced by White and Paramount scholar Alex Van Der Tuuk, took three years to compile and remaster, both volumes acting as an extensively detailed retrospect of the label’s past. With over 1600 songs within the release, it highlights the popularity of Blues, Folk and Jazz from 1917 to 1932.

Discussing the depth of the catalogue, White jokes “You can sit down on a Sunday and spend seven hours with this and you’ve only gotten through about 5 percent of it.”

The release was slightly marred in controversy this February, as The George H. Buck Jr Jazz Foundation (Home of Jazz labels including Jazzology) claimed that Third Man, along with their partners in releasing the collection Revenant Records, were in breach of copyright laws. The foundation stated that they had bought Paramount’s catalogue and discussions between the labels were on-going in sorting the matter.
