Jack’s back!
Surprise! Jack White has shared new track ‘Battle Cry’
It’s less than three minutes of unadulterated guitar riffs and anthemic handclaps.
Since the release of his album ‘Lazaretto,’ Jack White’s
been kinda busy with his Third Man label, making vinyl-themed colouring books,
attempting to send albums stratospheric in the most literal sense, and, of
course, doing a few records (including a collection of acoustic works).
But lo and behold! He’s back with new solo work! ‘Battle Cry’
has pretty much come without warning, delivering a sub three-minute blast of
almost grungy and squalling guitar riffs, handclaps and a chorus of guys
exclaiming “hey” every now and then. Jack doesn’t sing on the track (he lets his
guitar do that for him), but it’s certainly a song that delivers exactly what
it says on the tin.
There were some hints that Jack was up to something. He
recently told the New Yorker that he was working in a Nashville apartment,
saying that he’s going to try “to
write songs where I can’t be heard by the next-door neighbor.” Well, ‘Battle
Cry’ doesn’t quite fit that bill, but it’s still pretty epic.
Listen to ‘Battle Cry’ below.
