James Bay comes second in BBC Sound of 2015
Hat-sporting blues songwriter also won the BRITs Critics’ Choice Award.
With the winner announced tomorrow, blues songwriter James Bay has come second in the BBC Sound of 2015.
Joining a top five that also includes Stormzy, George the Poet and Atlantan newcomer Raury, the London troubadour has been tipped by UK tastemakers for 2015 success.
Debut album ‘Chaos And The Calm’ is released on 23rd March 2015 via Republic. Hype picked up via his 2014 singles ‘Let It Go’ and ‘Hold Back the River’.
When asked about his recent tips for success - he’s been crowned this year’s BRITs Critics’ Choice - Bay replied to the BBC: “Do you know what I want to do when that stuff comes in? I just want to prove I’m worth it. It’s a big old world, and there’s probably people going “well I think so-and-so should have won it”. So I want to show my worth.”
Explaining the signature hat he sports, he said: “I was living in Brighton, there was a shop called Mad Hatters and I’d seen one or two blues guys wearing these hats. So spur of the moment, I thought I’d give it a go. It hasn’t come off my head yet.”
Huw Stephens announces the winner of the BBC Sound of 2015 tomorrow morning, 9th January.
Featuring Yard Act, Death Cab For Cutie, Graham Coxon, Maisie Peters and more.
