Neu Pick
Jay Prince finds beautiful mercy with ‘AfroPhunk’ video
Honesty rules the roost on a cut from Jay Prince’s new EP.
Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from Jay Prince.
22-year-old Londoner Jay Prince is one of the UK’s brightest new hip-hop prospects, one of countless promising signs for the years ahead. His ‘BeFor Our Time’ mixtape was quick to pick up lofty Kendrick Lamar comparisons, and he’s going one step further with latest EP ‘Beautiful Mercy’, a smart collission course between love, hope and the modern age.
The EP’s finest glaze of optimism arrives in ‘AfroPhunk’, a reality-shifting take that defines its own path without any outside influence. DIY is premiering an accompanying video, which follows the all-smiles newcomer through car parks, rooftops and into the great outdoors. One thing’s clear - Jay Prince’s spirit is one of a kind.
