Jay Z removes debut album ‘Reasonable Doubt’ from Spotify in North America
Move follows the rapper’s launch of rival service TIDAL.
Jay Z has removed his 1996 debut album ‘Reasonable Doubt’ from Spotify’s North American service.
The rapper’s move follows the launch of the artist-owned streaming rival TIDAL, which Jay Z introduced to the world last week. ‘Reasonable Doubt’ is unavailable in North America, though it is available to hear in the UK and other countries that host Spotify.
At the TIDAL launch last week, Jay Z stated that he does not wish to “sink” Spotify with his service, but wishes to “strike an honest blow” to the music industry as a whole. Read a transcript of Jay Z’s Q&A about TIDAL at New York University, here.
Jay Z’s decision to pull ‘Reasonable Doubt’ from Spotify follows a string of high profile artists doing the same in recent years, the most recent case being Taylor Swift, who removed all of her back catalogue in late 2014.
