Jay Z responds directly to TIDAL criticisms with a series of tweets
“Stream of consciousness” posts saw the rapper defending his new venture.
Jay Z has publicly defended TIDAL for the first time, after weeks of well-publicised criticism towards his new streaming venture.
Claiming that his recently-revamped service is doing “just fine”, the rapper took to a series of “stream of consciousness” thoughts, where he directly addressed specific points.
He appeared to defend the “rich getting richer” argument - that TIDAL is run by well-off musicians who aren’t representing new artists - by listing off rival companies and their current values.
Relating to the fact that TIDAL’s dropped out of the top 700 apps, he said “It took Spotify 9 years to be successful…”
“Please give us a chance,” he offered, while citing the service’s royalty rates and claiming “Our actions will speak louder than words.”
What he failed to mention was TIDAL’s lack of a free payment option (one of the most heavily-levelled criticisms so far, when Jay Z is citing inclusivity and #TIDALforall) or the confusing star-studded TIDAL launch ceremony from last month. Strangest of all was his public claim that rival companies are spending millions on a “smear campaign” against his service.
