Joey Bada$$ offers statement following assault arrest

It was initially reported yesterday by Sydney Morning Herald that US rapper Joey Bada$$ had been arrested and charged with assault, after allegedly punching a security guard.

The incident is said to have taken place at around 8.30pm, as Bada$$ was about to take to the stage at Falls Festival in Byron Bay, New South Wales, Australia. After reportedly breaking the nose of the security guard, authorities made the arrest after Bada$$ had finished his set and come off stage.

After appearing at Lismore Bail Court on Saturday 3rd January, the rapper was initially denied bail and given a hearing date of 19th March at Byron Bay Local Court. However, a representative for Joey Bada$$ has since confirmed that he has now been granted bail and offered the following statement:

“There was a misunderstanding with security at the Byron Falls Festival show, which resulted in charges being laid by NSW Police. After fully cooperating with Police, Joey was granted bail and entered a plea of not guilty to the charge”

His debut album, ‘B4.DA.$$’ is due out 20th January.
