Johnny Marr airs ‘Candidate’ video

Johnny Marr has unveiled an atmospheric new video for ‘Candidate’, a song from last year’s ‘Playland’ LP.

The former Smiths guitarist teamed up with Doviak for the song, which was inspired by a trip through New York’s Times Square. “That song’s about a lot of the great women – of which there have been many, from being a little boy onwards — that have made the impression on me,” he says.

An accompanying video - directed by Subset and shot by Ben Thornley - sees the concept being transformed into something closer to home, with in-the-studio footage ruling the roost.

The new single is out 29th June. Johnny Marr supports The Who at BST Hyde Park (26th June) before playing the following shows:
