Johnny Marr to cover Depeche Mode for Record Store Day
Version of ‘I Feel You’ will be released alongside a live track from The Smiths.
Johnny Marr has announced plans to release a new seven-inch single, exclusive to Record Store Day 2015 on 18th April.
Marr’s release will see the guitarist covering Depeche Mode’s 1993 song ‘I Feel You’. It’ll come backed by a live version of The Smiths’ ‘Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want’, dated back to 1984.
The Depeche Mode cover is a staple of Marr’s tour. “”The first night we played it someone posted it on YouTube and it became really popular in the encore. Then the tour was over and I was invited to do something for Record Store Day and it was a really good fit,” he says.
“We managed to put our own twist on it, and I think make it modern.”
Entering its ninth year, Record Store Day 2015 will be led by Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl as this year’s official ambassador.
