Jon Hopkins shares orchestral new number ‘Forever Held’
The track has been used by Coldplay to open their latest album, ‘Moon Music’.

Jon Hopkins has shared his latest single ‘Forever Held’ - an evocative, full orchestral piece inspired by a NASA installation that has also been used by Coldplay to intro their recent album ‘Moon Music’.
Spotlighting strings arranged by Icelandic multi-instrumentalist Ólafur Arnalds, the new track was created for Space for Earth - NASA’s first immersive experience open to the public, located at their headquarters in Washington DC - and explores the wondrous yet vulnerable ecosystem of our universe. (Nothing major, then).
Of the piece, Jon has shared: “I wanted to make something timeless that would transmit the feeling of being ‘held’ by the Earth. I was thinking about the fragility and power of our planet, and of the human race’s role in its own destiny.”
“Space is not merely the backdrop to human existence, but a living, breathing dimension,” NASA’s Creative Director Erica Bernhard has added. “The view from space offers a profound shift in perspective - astronauts call this the overview effect. Hopkins’ compositions capture that shift - infusing sound with the expansiveness of space while grounding us in the essence and rhythms of life on Earth. His soundscapes act as a bridge between these realms, translating the awe and wonder of space and Earth into a sonic and immersive journey that asks us to consider our place in the universe and our responsibility to the planet.”
‘Forever Held’ arrives in the wake of Jon’s August album ‘RITUAL’, as well as this Summer’s Green Man headline set and his recent feature on the remix version of Charli xcx’s ‘I might say something stupid’ (taken from ‘brat and it’s completely different but also still brat’) alongside The 1975.
