Joy Williams to release new solo album, shares ‘Woman (Oh Mama)’
The record will be released this summer.
Joy Williams has announced (some) details of a new solo album.
‘Venus’ will be the singer-songwriter’s first solo release since 2010’s ‘We Mapped The World’ EP, and the split of The Civil Wars, back in 2014 following the release of their Grammy-winning self-titled second record.
She also appeared on an alternate version of Paramore’s ‘Hate To See Your Heart Break’ last year.
Along with news of the album, Williams has shared one of the record’s tracks, ‘Woman (Oh Mama)’. “The entire song is what it’s like to experience the beauty, the spark and strength of what it is to be inside your skin,” she explains. “It’s a song with energy and fire. I wanted to own the complexity and the three dimensional aspect of what it is to be a woman. ‘I am a universe wrapped in skin’… That’s one of my favorite lines from the new album. I’m excited about being a woman. I’m excited to be where I am now, who I am now.”
She has announced a handful of live dates this spring - including London’s Islington Assembly Hall.
