Kraftwerk to be honoured in new academic exhibition

German electronic pioneers Kraftwerk are to be the subject of an international academic conference for the first time.

Taking place at Aston University, Birmingham, from the weekend of 21st January, it’s set to explore the following topic: ‘Industrielle Volksmusik for the Twenty-First Century: Kraftwerk and the Birth of Electronic Music in Germany’.

Exploring “the cultural-historial origins of the man-machine,” it also delves into the “cultural studies of cycling.”

Kraftwerk’s own Wolfgang Flür - a former member of the band - is set to appear for a Q&A session. He’ll also read from his memoirs.

“Kraftwerk specialists from Britain, as well as Finland, Austria, the Netherlands and the US, will present papers dealing with the band’s music and the impact it has had on other artists,” reads a description of the conference.

Tickets and registration details can be found here.
