KWAYE goes large on new track ‘Little Ones’
A little earlier in the year, Zimbabwe-born Londoner KWAYE burst forth with ‘Cool Kids’, which set him on course for being a potential chart-topper of the future with funk guitars and a smooth, retro-pop vibe (it’s gained over one million plays!) Now he’s back with another cut, somewhat ironically called ‘Little Ones’. Make no mistake though: this is another huge slice of power-pop from KWAYE. On it, he sings about the freedom of children and their innocence in the face of a society that’s determined to constantly try to place things in neatly packaged boxes. That idea of rallying against labels pretty much perfectly describes KWAYE’s music too. With ‘Little Ones’ he’s still mined the classic sounds of the past (that stabbing bass tone that occasionally comes to the fore could have been lifted from the best 80s hits) but keeps it fresh with shimmering, soaring synths. It’s KWAYE himself who’s most impressive here though, keeping his vocals loose and unrestrained, shifting from deep and soulful to light and sweeping, all the while packing an emotional punch when needed. Yep, there’s nothing “little” about this one. Listen to ‘Little Ones’ below.
