Laurie Anderson and Patti Smith induct Lou Reed into The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame

The late artist was honoured alongside Green Day, Bill Withers, and Joan Jett & The Blackhearts.

The annual Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame ceremony took place at the weekend, with six artists added to the ‘Performer’ category of the awards in Cleveland, Ohio on Saturday 18th April. Of the six new entries, the late Lou Reed was honoured, with his wife Laurie Anderson accepting the award on his behalf after an introduction from Reed’s friend Patti Smith.

The induction for Reed was followed by a performance from Beck and fun. frontman Nate Ruess who covered ‘Satellite Of Love’, while Karen O and Nick Zinner of Yeah Yeah Yeah’s performed ‘Vicious’, both of which appear on Reed’s album ‘Transformer’.

As well as Lou Reed’s induction, Green Day, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Bill Withers and, The Paul Butterfield Blues Band were also honoured at the ceremony. Ringo Starr was inducted with an award for ‘Musical Excellence’, while Miley Cyrus, Dave Grohl and Tommy James performed with Joan Jett.
