Law Holt masters provocative pop with her ‘Spit’ video
The Young Fathers-affiliated newcomer is racing ahead with a new single.

There’s way more to Scottish newcomer Law Holt’s music than her collaborations with Young Fathers. But it’s hard not to associate her provocative, first-foot-forward take on pop with the 2014 Mercury Prize winners.
On ‘Spit’, she shrouds a simple melody until it hits drowning point. Playful pop with sinister undertones, growling vocals are set up against harsh, detuned effects and berserk beats. It’s hardly a far cry from Young Fathers’ ‘White Men Are Black Men Too’, a record that puts spirit above everything else. Studio sheen means nothing compared to a buzzing energy, and it hasn’t taken Law Holt long to come to the same realisation.
DIY has the first play of her eyeballing, uncompromising ‘Spit’ video. It’s produced by Soulpunk - watch below.
