Neu Pick
Leif Erikson travel far with ‘Looking For Signs’
London group deliver a tightly-wound gem with their debut track.

Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from Leif Erikson.
London band Leif Erikson don’t just owe their name to an early Interpol track. They’re named after an Icelandic explorer who technically pipped Christopher Columbus to the America-reaching post, depending on who you ask.
Clue’s in the name, but Leif Erikson are into exploring. The bare roots of their sound aren’t complex, but with just a handful of tools, they cover enough ground to make Bear Grylls look tame. Debut track ‘Looking For Signs’ sounds like the product of countless practice sessions. Tightly-wound, there isn’t a note out of place or stone left unturned. Like Field Music if they travelled into the woods and turned into a Fleet Foxes-style cult, the peers Leif Erikson pass on their expansive journey are impressive.
DIY is premiering a video for ‘Looking For Signs’ below. True to form, it covers a lot of terrain.
Featuring Yard Act, Death Cab For Cutie, Graham Coxon, Maisie Peters and more.
