Sub Pop signed and celebrated for skewing hip-hop conventions until genre tags are old fodder, clipping. are on the brink of releasing their debut album.

‘CLPPNG’ comes out on 9th June. Its lead track ‘Work Work’ features MC Cocc Pistol Cree, with Daveed Diggs (vocals) leading the verses with talk of writers getting high and tourists with cameraphones. Cree’s contribution is a show-stealer, no doubt about it. But there’s so much going on courtesy of Jonathan Snipes and William Hutson’s noise-obsessed compositional parts. If we’re talking about hip-hop flipping the formula and starting afresh, this is right up there with fellow Sub Pop signings Shabazz Palaces.
