Listen: S. Carey Previews New Album With ‘Crown The Pines’

The Bon Iver collaborating S. Carey looks set to truly assert himself as a solo artist this spring with a new album, ‘Range of Light’. His second solo longplayer, it’s already showcased the breathless ‘Fire-Scene’ (and a still motion, accompanying video that took years to film). Now’s the turn of ‘Crown the Pines’, another brittle-to-the-touch number defined by its swarm of violins and overlapping vocals.

What might set out Bon Iver’s ‘For Emma, Forever Ago’ LP apart from the crowd also applies here. The heart of the songwriting comes from one person, but it’s made to sound like a flurry of countless, energised beings are exploring the scene all at once.
