London songwriter Oyinda makes heady first impression with ‘Rush of You’
The Nigerian singer makes her live debut at Lollapalooza and is currently working on a debut EP.
Oyinda is a London-raised, currently New York-based Nigerian songwriter working towards releasing her debut EP. That’s one first step: The next is her debut show, which is set to take place at Chicago’s Lollapalooza of all places. Any slight stage fright ought to be countered when she’s making songs as strong as this one, ‘Rush of You’.
A lead from her first release, the track circuits barely-there showy guitar solos and looped, flickering vocals on a journey that’s led by thumping piano notes (think Massive Attack with an even greater freedom to roam) and the Londoner’s glue-like vocals. They piece together a heady mix of drifting ideas - her opening statement of being able to “draw the line right down the middle so you can’t get close” makes a lot of sense. This song is devoted to her masterful sense of control.
DIY’s got the first play of ‘Rush of You’ below.
