M.I.A Documentary Receives Backing, Is In Production

Previously scrapped documentary is back in production after receiving financial backing from BRITDOC.

A documentary based on the career of M.I.A had initially been teased earlier this year with a trailer that’s since been removed. The project was sent into disrepute when director Steve Loveridge had seemingly called quits on the doc.

However, the release is back in production after gaining the backing of non-profit documentary support scheme BRITDOC. With the film yet to be produced, BRITDOC will link up with Yala Films to complete the work.

The new backers have declared M.I.A a ‘magnet for controversy from her arrival on the music scene in 2003.’ Her non-veiled political ideas have stirred a fair few people up the wrong way, gaining criticism from both the music press and general political commentators.

A previously unveiled teaser featured interview with Kanye West, XL’s Richard Russell and Diplo.

M.I.A’s ‘Matangi’ is out now on Interscope.
