The trailer for the M.I.A’s new documentary is here
‘Matangi/Maya/M.I.A’ will be released this September.
MIA has released the trailer for her new documentary ‘MATANGI / MAYA / M.I.A’. After originally premiering at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, the film will hit theatres in the UK and US this September.
The Stephen Loveridge-directed documentary charts the rise of Maya Arulpragasam, who came to the UK from Sri Lanka as a 11-year-old refugee to escape civil war, and went on to become global music star M.I.A as well as an outspoken activist for multiculturalism and human rights. The film features an array of never-before-seen personal video recordings stretching back over two decades.
The documentary won the World Cinema Documentary Special Jury Award at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and has also been screened at festivals across the U.S. including New Directors/New Films at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City and the Berlin International Film Festival.
