Mac DeMarco is releasing new album ‘This Old Dog’ in May

Mac DeMarco is back! He’s announced that he’ll be releasing his new album ‘This Old Dog’ on 5th May via Captured Tracks.

The follow-up to 2014’s ‘Salad Days’ comes after Mac moved from Queens to Los Angeles and a realisation that, after the relocation, he started to sit much more on the material he was writing. Mac already had a clutch of demos that he wanted to turn into an album quickly, but he took his time developing each song. Then, he began to write more songs on acoustic guitar, leading to the overall sound of the album.

As Mac explains in a statement: “The majority of this album is acoustic guitar, synthesizer, some drum machine, and one song is electric guitar. So this is a new thing for me.” He continued: “This is my acoustic album, but it’s not really an acoustic album at all. That’s just what it feels like, mostly. I’m Italian, so I guess this is an Italian rock record.” See the tracklisting for ‘This Old Dog’ below.

Both tracks do indeed lean more heavily on a lo-fi sound, with ‘My Old Man’ kicking off with light tropical drum machine loops, and ‘This Old Dog’ containing lilting waves of Americana-tinged guitar.
