Neu Pick:
Is it a ‘Sign’? Man of Moon stake their claim
Scottish band give nods to Django Django and The Phantom Band with their driven, momentum-backed pop.
Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from Man of Moon.“I’m just waiting for you to give me a sign,” bellow Man of Moon on their latest Melodic Records single, pinning their hopes on some stranger to give guidance. Truth be told, this Edinburgh duo are masters of setting the agenda - they don’t need outside assistance.
With ‘Sign’, they take the same motifs of last year’s ‘The Road’, a head-turning debut single driven by momentum. The same applies here. Once they catch their first sight of gold, they chase it. Throughout the song’s five minutes, a chugged bassline sticks to the same note - it just gets backed by more and more noise, extra jolts of adrenaline every few seconds. It’s music to get lost in, and you’d bet Man of Moon find catharsis of their own when making it.
‘Sign’ is taken from a new EP, ‘Medicine’, out 10th June. Pre-order here.
