Manchester’s The Foetals showcase sludgy fuzz with ‘Malted’

Jolan Lewis is a familiar staple of Manchester’s fuzz-drenched scene. The frontman of The Pink Teens (formerly known as Temple Songs), he also has roles in ex-WU LYF man Francis Lung’s band, plus fast-rising newcomer Aldous RH.

With The Foetals, Lewis goes it alone for the first time. The end result is something not too far removed from his previous work or current projects, but on ‘Malted’ he showcases a classically-cut style of songwriting that goes way beyond the fuzzy aesthetic. Chances are Lewis was raised on his parents’ ‘60s records, bit-by-bit learning how to swap a hooking verse for a sweeping chorus, and repeat.

DIY’s got the first play of ‘Malted’ below. It’s taken from ‘Meet The Foetals’, a debut release out in October via PNKSLM Recordings.
