Metallica ready themselves for Glastonbury with ‘Lords of Summer’ track

Headliners are set to play Worthy Farm on Saturday 28th June.

Glastonbury headliners Metallica are readying themselves for a Saturday 28th June appearance by sharing a new track, ‘Lords of Summer’.

A studio version of the track has emerged, although it’s arrived in “First Pass” form, presumably meaning this isn’t the final edit. Previously a demo’s been doing the rounds for the past few months.

James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich and co.’s last full-length was in 2008 with ‘Death Magnetic’. Their headline slot at Glastonbury 2014 is the first to ever be played by a heavy metal act. It’s attracted some controversy, although Michael Eavis recently backed the band to play the “set of their lives” at Worthy Farm next weekend.

Metallica are joined by Arcade Fire and Kasabian at this year’s Glastonbury.

Listen to the first edit of ‘Lords of Summer’ below. It’s out now on iTunes.
