Middle Kids are off to a flier on ‘Never Start’

It’s the latest pop-rock monster from the Australians’ upcoming self-titled debut EP.

Sydney alt-rockers Middle Kids have just signed a deal with Domino in the States and EMI in their native Australia, and are set to release their self-titled debut EP on 17th February.

It’s safe to say that the trio are getting ready to launch, so to celebrate they’ve released their latest slice of gigantic pop-rock. ‘Never Start’ is filled with rhythmic drums, a few complex yet scuzzy guitar melodies and, of course, a blinding chorus. “I’m just trying to do it right, even though I know I won’t” sings Hannah Joy. Well, at least with this track they’ve hit all the right chords.

‘Never Start’ also has a snazzy new video courtesy of director Emile Frederick. Shot in stark black and white, things are pretty moody at first with images of lightning in the distance and Hannah brooding in the corner. In no time at all though, the band are dancing around and waving flashlights around like they’re auditioning to be a member of air traffic control. Plus, it’s almost impossible not to giggle when we’re told about the impending “guitar break”.
