Mitski has shared details of her new album, ‘The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We’, due out on 15th September via Dead Oceans. The follow up to 2022’s ‘Laurel Hell’, this record sees her expand her horizons but also narrow her focus, as she hones in on the little moments that make up day to day life. Recorded in East Nashville and Los Angeles, it incorporates an orchestra and a 17-strong choir, with arrangements done by Drew Erickson and Mitski herself.

To mark the announcement, she has released the powerful lead single ‘Bug Like an Angel’, as well as a video depicting scenes of self-destruction and sadness, but also community and hope. Speaking about ‘The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We’, Mitski says: “This is my most American album, and the music feels like a profound act of witnessing in this country, in all of its private sorrows and painful contradictions. I wish I could leave behind all the love I have, aftr I die, so that I can shine all this goodness, all this good love that I’ve created onto other people.”
