Newcastle’s Rice Milk share new track ‘take my weight’
Group’s ‘Weird Year’ cassette is out this June.
Rice Milk use repetition like some kind of established techno-head. As it stands, they actually make music that roots itself in the UK’s ever-burgeoning DIY scene, where rough edges get extra points and emotion-drenched songwriting wins the war.
But it’s the eerily constant chord chug defining new song ‘take my weight’ that helps this Newcastle group stand out in a crowd. A piercing falsetto creeps in, as does a swarm of disjointed synth parts, but in the same way a recording from The Field leaves you disoriented by the end, this is a song built around one basic, powerful idea.
The song’s taken from Rice Milk’s new ‘Weird Year’ cassette, out 8th June via Good Food tapes and zines.
Pre-order the cassette here. Catch Rice Milk at London’s Power Lunches on 11th June w/ Furrow, Black Fungus, Pret a Monster and The Current / Dissent.
