Newport’s Le Pub Venue To Close?

The BBC reports that the South Wales venue is up for sale and could cease hosting live music.

Much-loved Newport music venue Le Pub is up for sale and could face closure, according to the BBC.

The Wales Music blog post reports that the much-loved small venue ‘could be in danger of falling out of live music usage’ as new buyers would have no obligation to use it as a music venue.

The venue itself confirmed the news on Twitter, posting: ‘The building is up for sale. We are working on solutions. Get this trending #savelepub please!!!’

The news comes two years after the South Wales city lost its legendary TJ’s venue, which closed in April 2010 due to financial problems.

Support for Le Pub has been flooding in on Twitter since the news broke this morning through the use of the hashtag ‘#savelepub’.

Kids In Glass Houses’ Aled Phillips posted: ‘Devastated to hear about @lepub. I hope someone with the right intentions can come in and preserve it. Best venue. ‪#savelepub.’ Other bands such as Exit_International, Samoans, Among Brothers and Houdini Dax have also posted in support of the small, two-storey venue.
