Nick Mulvey on Mercury Prize nomination: “I’m not expecting to be troubled by winning”
DIY tackles Mulvey on the red carpet for his thoughts on this year’s Mercury Prize.
Nick Mulvey is understandably thrilled to be nominated for this year’s Mercury Prize, with his debut album ‘First Mind’. “It’s up there definitely,” he told DIY this evening, from the ceremony’s red carpet. “It’s real solid recognition from the British music industry. I’m beaming.”
He’s not sure how he’ll react if he wins, mind you. “I can’t really predict that emotion cos that’s going to be unprecedented for me. I’m sure it’ll have all of the spectrum. I’m quite chilled this evening cos I’m not expecting to be troubled by winning.”
If he does come up trumps he’s not going to fritter away his winnings on a shiny red car, or a holiday somewhere exotic. “I will probably be very sensible and invest it back in the project,” Nick laughs. “I bet a very modest £10 on myself, and £20 on Kate tempest. I’m old friends with Kate Tempest so I’m rooting for her.”
Other acts nominated for the Mercury Prize 2014 include Bombay Bicycle Club, Royal Blood, FKA twigs, Jungle and Young Fathers. The winner will be announced later this evening (Wednesday 29th October) at the Roundhouse, London ceremony.
