Official UK Chart Show to move to Fridays, with Greg James presenting

Weekly show is moving from Sundays to Fridays, in line with global release date.

BBC Radio 1 has announced that its Official Chart Show will move from its traditional Sunday slot to Fridays, starting this summer.

Greg James has been announced as the new host for the Official Top 40, presenting a show between 4pm and 6pm every Friday.

The move falls in line with industry plans to introduce Friday as a global release date. Sales figures will include anything from 00.01 on Friday, to midnight the following Thursday. Currently, singles are released every Sunday in the UK, with albums released every Monday.

Martin Talbot, chief executive of the Official Charts Company, hailed the move: “This is an exciting new era for the Official Singles Chart – following the integration of streams, with the move to a new, more high profile slot,” he said.
