Oxford noisy poppers Poledo warp expectations on new ‘Egg Ccun Catpil Butfli’ EP
Stream their captivating lo-fi return exclusively on DIY ahead of its release tomorrow.

Autocorrect’s worst nightmare though it maybe, ‘Egg Ccun Catpil Butfli’ is the perfect title for Poledo’s rollercoaster of a second work. Following last year’s debut ‘Kids Don’t Follow’, every track contained within the Oxford group’s new EP is a lesson in metamorphosis, each track a lesson in pigeon-hole dodging experimental pop. Released tomorrow via Deadbeat And Down, you can stream it first right here on DIY, along with the video for closing track ‘Loser’.
Channelling the off-the-wall twists and turns of Girl Band and their noisy ilk through a decidedly Pavement-indebted aesthetic, it’s a gripping next step. Snotty though frontman Evan Clements’ vocal delivery may be, there’s a youthful exuberance buried under all those heavy blankets of shoegaze – keep an eye out for that in the Swim Deep psychedelia of ‘Comfortable Life’ and grinning pop harmonies of ‘Loser’ in particular.
The band play The Library in Oxford tomorrow to celebrate their record’s release – more details on that here. Prepare with our exclusive stream of ‘Egg Ccun Catpil Butfli’ below, and check out the video for ‘Loser’ below that.
Featuring Yard Act, Death Cab For Cutie, Graham Coxon, Maisie Peters and more.
