The Black Keys’ Patrick Carney slags off Josh Homme’s guitar playing on ‘Perfect Illusion’

Twitter beef follows as Lady Gaga and Mark Ronson fight back and propose a “guitar death-match”.

The Black Keys’ Patrick Carney isn’t too keen on Lady Gaga’s new single ‘Perfect Illusion’ it seems, and on a segment for VICE News Tonight, the drummer vocalised his disdain for the song. One element in particular upset him profoundly; Josh Homme’s guitar playing.

“I’m lost because the guitar at the top of it sounds so shitty,” he said. “It’s like ‘Eye Of The Tiger’, but not even nearly as good as that. It sounds like Hulk Hogan is playing the fucking guitar.”

The Queens of the Stone Age frontman lends his guitar-playing to ‘Perfect Illusion’, which also features production from Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker, Mark Ronson, and BloodPop.

Quick to hit back, both Mark Ronson and Lady Gaga herself responded to Patrick to give him a piece of their minds. “I also remember my good friend Patrick Carney sitting in my living room, hearing ‘Uptown Funk’ and telling me it wouldn’t work,” sassed Ronno.

“He’s not as snarky as I would be watching him in a guitar death-match w Kevin Parker and Josh Fucking Homme,” added Gagz.

Patrick later responded, saying “to be clear … I just said the guitar at the top sounds like Hogan™. Lighten up and listen up.” He also posted an old video of himself playing guitar, (featuring a terrible rendition of Norwegian orchestra composition ‘In the Hall of the Mountain King’ ) as his submission to Lady Gaga’s guitar death match. There you go then.
