Patti Smith’s ‘Just Kids’ to be adapted into a television series

Patti Smith’s celebrated 2010 memoir ‘Just Kids’ is to be adapted into a television series by Showtime.

Smith’s first book - which is set to be followed by a sequel, ‘M Train’, later this year - will be given a pilot episode. Patti Smith is co-writing and co-producing the series alongside ‘Penny Dreadful’ creator John Logan, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The original memoir begins by focusing on Smith’s relationship with Robert Mapplethorpe, before exploring her rise as a musician.

Smith says in a statement: “A limited series on Showtime will allow us to explore the characters more deeply, enabling us to develop stories beyond the book and allow a measure of unorthodox presentation. The medium of a television limited series offers narrative freedom and a chance to expand upon the themes of the book.”

As recently announced, Smith is set to support new release ‘M Train’ with a book tour.
