Paul McCartney and Rob Brydon share unique insights into 'The Boys Of Dungeon Lane' at special London Roundhouse Q&A

Taking to the stage at Camden’s iconic Roundhouse last night (Wednesday 10th June), Paul McCartney was joined by guest host Rob Brydon for a very special live Q&A in celebration of his reflective new album, ‘The Boys Of Dungeon Lane’.

As well as discussing the making of the record with Rob, Paul also treated fans to music from his latest LP and shared stories and insights from the album’s earliest beginnings, including memories of his former Beatles bandmates; of its title, he explained: “[it’s] a metaphor for all the boys I grew up with in Liverpool… where me and George [Harrison] lived… it was home to us.”

Looking back on his early encounters with John Lennon, Paul reminisced: “Positive songs I really like, I have a hard time doing down songs… that was one of the great things about writing with John.” Recalling their days of parties and late nights in Liverpool, he continued: “At parties people would ask ‘what do you do?’, and I’d say ‘I like writing songs’. [Then] they’d talk across me… when I met John, I said ‘I like writing songs’, and he said ‘yeah, so do I’.”

Expanding more on his passion for songwriting, and how this figured in the creation of ‘The Boys Of Dungeon Lane’, Paul coyly noted that “I don’t know [I do it], but I really love it.” Specifically, he picked out album centrepiece ‘Come Inside’ as a highlight, describing it as “a bit of a banger… a big banger”.

‘The Boys Of Dungeon Lane’ debuted at Number One on the UK Album Charts, making it - astonishingly - Paul’s 24th UK Number One album (following 2020’s chart-topping ‘McCartney III’), taking in records released across seven decades as a solo artist, with Wings, and of course with The Beatles.

Now standing as the most successful album artist in British music history - and one of the biggest, most influential artists of all time - Paul McCartney has added yet another chapter to his remarkable life story with ‘The Boys Of Dungeon Lane’.
