Paul McCartney announces reflective new album ‘The Boys Of Dungeon Lane’
Its title comes from a lyric in poignant lead single ‘Days We Left Behind’, which sees him delve into his memories of Liverpool.

Paul McCartney has revealed that he’ll be releasing a new solo album - his first in over five years - on 29th May, and has also marked the occasion by sharing its lead single, ‘Days We Left Behind’.
Entitled ‘The Boys Of Dungeon Lane’ (after a lyric in this latest track), the LP will be arriving via MPL/Capitol Records as a follow up to 2020’s ‘McCartney III’. It promises to be a deeply personal record based on memories of his formative years in Liverpool - as well as love songs that draw inspiration from more recent times - giving an intimate insight into the early chapters of the life of the world’s greatest living storyteller.
Recorded with producer Andrew Watt in Los Angeles and Sussex over five years, in efficient sessions squeezed between Paul’s still-stacked live schedule, the album came to life without external pressure from labels or deadlines, driven simply by Paul’s undimmed musical and thematic curiosity.
Dubbed by press materials as “his most introspective album to date” which “takes the listener back to where it all began”, ‘The Boys Of Dungeon Lane’ finds Paul ruminating on his post-war childhood, his family’s quiet strength, and the pre-Beatles connection shared between himself, John, and George.
Speaking about ‘Days We Left Behind’, Paul has described this first preview as “very much a memory song for me”. Continuing, he muses: “I was thinking just that, about the days I left behind, and I do often wonder if I’m just writing about the past - but then I think, how can you write about anything else?
“It’s just a lot of memories of Liverpool. It involves a bit in the middle about John and Forthlin Road, which is the street I used to live in. Dungeon Lane is near there. I used to live in a place called Speke which is quite working class. We didn’t have much at all but it didn’t matter because all the people were great and you didn’t notice you didn’t have much.”
