Neu Pick
Bristol supergroup Pet Shimmers share surreal video for ‘Mortal Sport Argonaut’
The band, featuring Oliver Wilde among others, play their debut headline show at The Louisiana next month.
Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from Pet Shimmers.
Pet Shimmers are a new supergroup, bringing together the great and good of Bristol’s music scene.
Led by singer-songwriter Oliver Wilde, the group boast members who have been involved with the likes of Portishead, Herbal Tea and Scarlet Rascal.
They played their debut shows earlier this month, supporting Jelly Boy, the new project of Happyness member Benji Compston. They’ve also shared a handful of singles online, including the Goat Girl-featuring ‘Feels Hz’, and are now lining up a new AA-side single.
One A of this AA-side is ‘Mortal Sport Argonaut’, a bright, fizzing indie rock song that more than justifies the bubbling hype directed at the band so far. It comes complete with an extremely surreal video, which is playing below as today’s Neu Pick.
In Oliver’s words: “Pet Shimmers are targeting fans of Gender Neutral Milk Hotel, sitting down, liking stuff, folding arms, 8-bit, this band written backwards tnemevaP, Harmony Korine, Memoryhole and a bunch of other stuff.”
Pet Shimmers play their debut headline show at The Louisiana in Bristol on 20th April.
Watch the ‘Mortal Sport Argonaut’ video below.
Featuring Yard Act, Death Cab For Cutie, Graham Coxon, Maisie Peters and more.
