Premiere: Listen: FANS Stream New Track, ‘All This Time’
Emerging trio channel The Strokes swept up in a hurricane on their debut single.
Like a sluggish hangover eventually morphing into a great big seizing of the day, FANS’ debut single finds solace in grubby moments of shame. The three-piece - who we ranted on about in a bulletin back in October 2013 - build ‘All This Time’ from the ground upwards. Their frontman prowls around like Julian Casablancas on heat, with Strokes-isms being blustered and blown away by waves of crashing shoegaze in a heady chorus to match them all.
It’s more than a promising sign of things to come. FANS clearly know their way around harsh, raucous noise. Yes, it’s mindblowingly loud - especially in a live setting, you’d suspect - but there’s a smart sense of restraint holding it all together.
Matt Peel (Eagulls, PABH) produces the debut single, out 28th April.
FANS play this year’s Live At Leeds festival (on 3rd May). DIY is an official media partner - we’ll be bringing you exclusive coverage throughout the fest.
