PSSY PWR waste no venom on debut track 'Cocaine Girls'

Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from PSSY PWR.

“Cocaine girls!” yells the no-seconds-wasted opening refrain of PSSY PWR’s debut statement, a saccharine-flecked banger dedicated to party fakers of the world. “How’d I get here?” they ask, amid a debauched night by the pool, watching discarded purple beakers float nonchalantly around in champagne-tainted water. This is roughly hewn pop with more close swerves with danger than a regular night out on the titles.

Precious little is known about the band, for now. There’s no press shot of the band, no hometown to speak of, and for now at least, just this one sherbet-dabbed track to go on. It’s fair to hazard a guess from their riot grrl-nodding name that PSSY PWR throw more than a few admiring glances in the direction of Kathleen Hanna, Babes of Toyland, L7, et al, but sonically, they’re a different beast. Taking all of the venom their moniker evokes, PSSY PWR instead wield gigantic, cranium-embedding pop melodies as their chief weapon.

We’ve got the first play of PSSY PWR’s debut track ‘Cocaine Girls’ here on DIY. Give it a spin below.
