Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood to release new album 'Junun' next month

Following the news that Thom Yorke is scoring broadway production Old Times, there’s yet another Radiohead-related album that isn’t an actual Radiohead album on the way. The band’s Jonny Greenwood is set to release a new collaborative record next month.

The sessions for Greenwood’s new release were filmed for Paul Thomas Anderson’s upcoming documentary Junun, which streams online from today (9th October) on MUBI. Produced by frequent Radiohead collaborator Nigel Godrich, ‘Junun’ was recorded in India this year, with Israeli composer Shye Ben Tzur, and a dozen local musicians. Featuring “Arabic, Indian, and western music,” the album is now slated for a proper release next month.

Meanwhile, nobody really has a clue when that hotly awaited new Radiohead album will land, though the band’s Philip Selway did give an update at the beginning of last month. “We want to finish a record and that’s where we’re at,” he said. “We’re just launching ourselves into it… We’re back into it.”

‘The King of Limbs’ collaborator Robert Ziegler also shared photos of Radiohead in the studio with a string orchestra. Check out a clip from Paul Thomas Anderson’s ‘Junun’ doc below.
