Reading 2013: Bastille Discusses Secret Set

Dan Smith took to an intimate get-together ahead of his scheduled Reading performance.

Earlier today word spread that Bastille was playing a secret set on the BBC Introducing Stage, ahead of his NME/Radio 1 slot later in the afternoon.

We say ‘word spread’. By the time Dan Smith and co took to the stage just before 3pm, everybody who needed to know was there. Emphasis on the word ‘secret’ had faded by this point.

DIY was on hand to get first word on how it came together. ‘The only slightly stressful thing was that it was going out live on the radio, and we couldn’t really hear ourselves’, said Dan shortly following his set. ‘There was that dual thing of, ‘I have no idea if this is going well or not…’ I think I kept forgetting the words as well…

‘But! The reason we couldn’t hear ourselves was because people were singing along so loudly - so that was a nice thing!’

Bastille depart Reading Festival tonight to play Leeds, 17.35 at the NME/Radio 1 Stage on Saturday 24th August. Click here to read DIY’s Reading festival live blog.
