Robert Smith Set To Auction More Secret 7s For Teenage Cancer Trust”
Robert Smith has hit back, following the Ebay-ing of his charity vinyl sleeve.

It’s safe to say that this weekend was a massive victory for fans of the record, so when we heard about the latest Ebay debacle, it felt like a real shame.
Following on from the Secret 7’ project - an in-aid-of-charity gallery of cover art by all manner of artists that contained the hidden surprise of a randomly picked record - that was in full swing on Record Store Day, this extraordinarily rare ‘Friday, I’m In Love’ single appeared on Ebay. And why is it extraordinarily rare? Because its cover was designed by the one and only Robert Smith himself.
However, upon hearing the news that this little ol’ single was fetching up to over £1,000 in the auction, the artist in question has hit back and revealed that he will be auctioning several more versions of the single for Teenage Cancer Trust, complete with his own artwork and signature.
In a statement on The Cure’s website, Robert Smith wrote:
‘MY SLEEVE WAS PUT UP ON EBAY THE DAY IT WAS BOUGHT…
AS THIS WHOLE SECRET 7 EVENT WAS DESIGNED TO RAISE MONEY AND AWARENESS FOR THE TEENAGE CANCER TRUST I FIND THIS MORE THAN A LITTLE DISHEARTENING…
IF THE FORCED BELATED PROTESTATIONS ARE TO BE BELIEVED
‘As far as this item is concerned, however, since people have been asking we are making an exception to our rule of not discussing these matters. Proceeds from the sale of this item will be donated to charity.’
THEN WOULD IT NOT BE BETTER TO SIMPLY TAKE THE ITEM DOWN AND GIVE IT TO THE TEENAGE CANCER TRUST TO AUCTION?
…BAH!
ANYWAY
MY ADVICE?
DONT BOTHER BIDDING ON THIS ITEM
AS IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS ON EBAY YOU WILL UNDOUBTEDLY FIND…
