Neu Pick
Robocobra Quartet write their own rules on ‘Correct’
Inhabiting the same weird netherworld to Girl Band and their pals, the Belfast bruisers’ new video is today’s Neu Pick.
Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from Robocobra Quartet.
Belfast’s Robocobra Quartet are only based in that Irish city in the most literal sense. To be honest, they’re barely of this world - their jazz-inflected punk noise inhabits its own realm.
Sitting somewhere between Girl Band’s crooked mindset and the rage of Big Ups, their new video for ‘Correct’ captures that tightrope perfectly. On the face of it, it’s a stripped back affair, drummer-vocalist Chris Ryan running through the track’s knot-tight rhythm against a backdrop of bright white lights. That sense of normality doesn’t take long to slip, mind, with both his timekeeping and his wider actions soon taking on a hypnotising effect.
Taken from the group’s new album ‘Music For All Occasions’, due 18th November via Abbreviated Records, get lost in ‘Correct”s alternate world below. Robocobra Quartet head out on the following dates in the coming days:
