Run The Jewels unveil daft video for ‘Blockbuster Night Part 1’
El-P and Killer Mike chat up kittens, hotbox an ambulance and basically prove themselves the worst paramedics ever.
With second record ‘RTJ2’ still running rings around their hip-hop contemporaries, Run The Jewels have unveiled an off-the-wall music video for bassy album highlight ‘Blockbuster Night Part 1’.
Perfectly encapsulating Run The Jewels’ dark humour, the clip sees El-P and Killer Mike take on the role of the world’s worst paramedics – far more interested in hotboxing their ambulance, nicking patients’ laughing gas, munching on burgers and teasing kittens stuck in trees than they are in saving anyone.
The video comes just as Run The Jewels’ reign of terror it hitting its peak. The internet-funded, cat-voiced album remake ‘Meow The Jewels 2’ is incoming, graffiti artists across the globe are taking part in an RTJ-influenced Tag The Jewels art project, and they look set to take on next year’s festival circuit with the recent announcement of a set at July’s ATP Iceland. Their upcoming show at London’s Koko has sold out, but you can catch the duo at the Forum next summer, or in Manchester or Glasgow next month (dates below).
If you’re yet to sample the “showcase of crazy that does nothing but dazzle” that is ‘RTJ2’, it’s still up for free download here.
