Shabazz Palaces team up with Fly Guy Dai on ‘Effeminence’

It’s another taste of ‘Quazarz Vs. The Jealous Machines’.

Ishmael Butler and Tendai Maraire – better known as experimental hip hop duo Shabazz Palaces – will be releasing a pair of conceptual albums on 14th July via Sub Pop: ‘Quazarz: Born On A Gangster Star’ and ‘Quazarz vs. The Jealous Machines’.

The pair have been alternating between sharing tunes from each of the two albums. Last week, we got ‘When Cats Claw’ from ‘Born On A Gangster Star’ so, naturally, this week they’re treating us to another tune from ‘Vs. The Jealous Machines’ (aka the “extra-spatial twin” that places the protagonist in “the turnt-up states of Amurderca here on the Gangster Star to chronicle, explore an enjoy as a musical emissary”).

‘Effeminence’ features Fly Guy Dai, who’s a member of Shabazz Palaces’ side-project Chimurenga Renaissance, making it a little bit of a family affair, and spans six minutes. In that time, prepare to get sucked into a languid, beat-driven world that’s much sparser than you might be used to from the pair.
