Neu Pick
Simmer heat things up with new ‘Faze’ track
Premiering on DIY, the punk shoegazers reach for the sky on their latest single.
Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from Simmer.
One EP to the good, Cheshire shoegazers Simmer have already marked themselves out as something special. Now, they’re gunning for the big leagues - ‘Faze’, the lead track from their first full length, is their mammoth next step.
Far from content to slink into their navels like so many of their shoegazey contemporaries, ‘Faze’ showcases Simmer as a band tearing forward. Momentum backs every second right from its thunderous opening, and rather than fade into fuzz, they keep pushing onwards and upwards, spiralling into a heady anthemia before pulling the rug with a reverb-soaked, breathtakingly fearsome conclusion.
It’s the first track to be taken from the band’s debut LP ‘Paper Prisms’, which is set for release on UK grunge mega-label Dog Knights Productions on February 29th. Get the first stream of ‘Faze’ below as today’s Neu Pick, and keep an eye on this lot as they take to the skies over the coming months.
Featuring Yard Act, Death Cab For Cutie, Graham Coxon, Maisie Peters and more.
