Spotify hits 20 million paid subscribers, 75 million active users
Streaming service announces big stats post-Apple Music’s launch.

Spotify has picked its moment in announcing big new numbers for its user base and current subscribers.
Two days after the launch of Apple Music at a WWDC conference, the current big-hitter announced its big inroads from May 2014 to the present day.
The company confirmed that it had 20 million paid subscribers - double that of last year’s 10 million. 75 million Spotify users are currently active, too. And Spotify used these stats to boast about its current payouts to artists, saying $300 million had been distributed in the first three months of 2015.
The announcement was made alongside a playlist, ’20 Million Reasons to Say Thanks’. Including tracks called ‘Someone New’, ‘Sugah Daddy’ and ‘The Underdog’ could very well be slight digs at rivals Apple and Tidal.
Festival special! Featuring Wolf Alice, Kasabian, Lykke Li, Marmozets, Genesis Owusu and more.
